GreenLand is carbon-neutral certified

GreenLand Group was declared carbon neutral by “Instituto Colombiano de Normas Técnicas y Certificación” (Colombian technical standards and certification Institute - ICONTEC), thus achieving one of its most important goals established for 2022 as part of its sustainability commitment, which is aligned with the goal of achieving carbon neutrality in Colombia by 2050.

The company has been measuring its carbon footprint since 2018 to achieve Tier 1 and Tier 2 in its various processes and has voluntarily implemented several mitigation plans that have enabled the Group to reduce its emissions.

The actions that led to the certification include creating and following up of an intended plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, especially at Banacol, Agriplast, CFS Logistics and Wakate businesses; additionally, the Group implemented a campaign to create awareness and culture among the teams and purchased external forestry projects bonds.

Additionally, GreenLand has implemented an energy efficiency program and renewing several high electricity use equipment and is starting to use renewable energy through a solar panel project that will be implemented this year in Control B (aerial spraying operations), Banacol’s administrative offices in Urabá, and its headquarters in Envigado. It is estimated that the Envigado facility will generate 81,259 kw/h, which represents 27% of the energy provided by the system, and the Apartadó facility will generate 91,000 kw/h, which will provide 22% of energy supplied by the system. It is estimated that, Control B, the first year will generate 96,385 kw/h, which will represent 39% of the energy used for the operation.
