At Wakate, we have launched a new Reforestation Initiative in Caldas that promotes conservation and women's empowerment.

Conservation with purpose:

At GreenLand, our philosophy is based on creating shared value for people and nature. This commitment is not just an ideal, it is a guiding principle that inspires each of our actions. For this reason, we continue with our biodiversity conservation strategy and as part of this we are implementing a reforestation initiative that we will carry out through the "Women Coffee Growers Sowing Sustainability" program. This collaboration reinforces our commitment to sustainability, promoting gender equity and strengthening rural communities in the Caldas region.

A joint effort towards biodiversity

To begin 2025, we launched this project with the objective of preserving local ecosystems while generating development opportunities for the communities. This effort brings together 18 women from the municipalities of Aranzazu and Neira in Caldas, who will play a key role maintaining more than 18,000 native trees and planting approximately 7,350 new ones.

These activities include essential processes such as the collection and germination of seeds of native species from the conserved forests on our Wakate farm, which contributes significantly to the revitalization of local ecosystems.

This program is designed to go beyond simple tree planting; it is aimed towards creating profound and sustainable change by fostering active collaboration between different actors in the agricultural sector. In this way, biodiversity and social development become two sides of the same coin.

Women; leaders in sustainability

One of the highlights of this initiative is its focus on women's empowerment. At GreenLand, we understand that women are key agents for sustainable development and that their participation can transform entire communities. Therefore, this program seeks to employ them, train them and provide tools that empower them.

These are 18 women who, in addition to earning additional income through their participation in the program, will strengthen their skills as farmers and leaders within their communities. Through this initiative, they become a tangible example of how environmental sustainability can go hand in hand with human and social development. Behind each of them, a powerful reminder of how female empowerment can have a multiplier effect, impacting the women involved with their families and communities.

A partnership towards Social Impact

This initiative highlights how strategic alliances can have a significant impact on rural communities. "The collaboration between sectors connected by agriculture, such as coffee growers and avocado farmers, reflects the capacity we have to generate strategic alliances that promote the care of biodiversity. Additionally, the social focus is evident in the creation of jobs and training opportunities for women, strengthening their role in local development and increasing their connections to the region," says Víctor Manuel Henríquez Restrepo, manager of the GreenLand Group.

The collaboration between the Caldas Coffee Growers Committee and Wakate represents a model of effective cooperation and lays the groundwork for future initiatives that combine environmental protection with social development. By working together, we demonstrate that it is possible to build a future in which people and nature prosper in harmony.

Six months to transform lives

The project has an initial duration of six months, during which time significant progress is expected to be made both in ecosystem conservation and in strengthening the capacities of the participants. During this time, activities will range from soil preparation to planting and maintenance of trees, ensuring that every moment is an opportunity to learn and grow.

One of the most exciting aspects of this project is its capacity to actively engage communities. By working hand in hand with the women, their families and other community members, we are planting trees and cultivating hope, togetherness and purpose. In addition, the program fosters education and training in sustainable practices, ensuring that the benefits transcend beyond the initial six months.

Looking towards the future

The reforestation initiative reaffirms our commitment to the protection of nature. At GreenLand, we are committed to continue supporting initiatives that integrate environmental protection with social development, because we believe that these actions are essential to build a more equitable and sustainable future.

By fostering this alliance, we reaffirm our mission to promote responsible agricultural practices and generate a positive impact in the communities where we operate. This commitment is reflected in every tree planted, every woman empowered and every community strengthened through this joint effort.

Our work does not end here. We know that sustainable change is an ongoing process that requires collaboration, innovation and a constant focus on people and the planet. That is why we will continue to look for opportunities to expand initiatives like this one, ensuring that our actions today translate into lasting benefits for future generations.
